Background and Context

Northern Ghana is a region of considerable economic potential that remains largely untapped. Spanning five administrative regions and home to approximately five million people, the North contains nearly half of Ghana's land area but accounts for a significantly smaller share of its economic output.

The region's poverty rates stand at roughly twice the national average, with the Upper West and Upper East regions recording some of the highest incidences of poverty in the country.

Within this challenging environment, entrepreneurship persists. Northern Ghana hosts thousands of micro, small, and medium enterprises operating across diverse value chains, sustaining families, creating employment, and forming the backbone of local economies.
